The Crystal Goblet is an essay written by Beatrice Warde. The essay is notable historically as a call for increased clarity in printing and typography. It is now significant as a common reading in the study of typography and graphic design. The essay has been reprinted many times and is a touchstone for the concept of "clear" typography and the straightforward presentation of content.
In my book, I exploit both sides of the argument through the use of white, gold, and transparent pages layered atop each other. All imagery in the booklet was made out of type. The booklet has a mix of transparent paper layers, a little illustration, and typography that would make Beatrice proud!
Unfortunately, pictures do not do this booklet justice. However, that is what makes this book awesome and unique. It must be held and experienced to make the significant impact that Warde's words bring.
